Futuro (LALDEF)

Futuro is a cohort-based, college prep program for first and second-generation immigrants. Students learn life skills to help them pursue and excel in postsecondary education. Applicants have the opportunity to apply for Trenton or Princeton Cohort. The program begins in the summer after a participant’s sophomore year and meets weekly until they graduate from high school. It includes mentoring and tutoring, ACT/SAT prep, college application/financial aid support, resume and financial literacy development, cultural activities, mental health, volunteering, and life-skills workshops. Students receive a stipend at the completion of the program.

Application

Submit an application with

  • Applicant's Academic Information
  • Transcript Request
  • Essay response (1)
  • Teacher or community leader references (2)
  • Provide proof of household income verification (80% or below area median income)
  • Applications are open and live from March 1st to May 31st. Seats are limited.

Eligibility

  • Must be a resident of Mercer County
  • Rising Junior in High School (be a Sophmore at time of application)
  • Average GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Determined to be a first or second-generation college graduate
  • Willing to meet for two hours once a week and on weekends when needed.
